A frigid wind quietly blew its breath through the forest, caressing the leaves that dangled from the branches high above the earth. One small leaf fluttered idly down, taking its time while floating on the soft wind and finally landing on an obscure object. The figure seemed like nothing more than a shadow, a simple hallucination which could be over seen in seconds. This is what she desired to be, a simple thought, a mere gaze which could be thrown out and cast away as nothing more. The one who hid ever so slowly began to crouch down upon the limb she stood upon. Her heart rate was rapid, her fingers shook with anticipation and even her eyes narrowed in the anxiety of the wait. To her it was all too obvious, she was sure she would get caught. Her heart beat too loudly , her fingers trembled too much, she felt as if the glint of her eyes could be seen through the gloom and though they could not panic drove the woman to a state of paranoia in which she doubted her every move, her every breath.

The dry leaves below crunched under the weight of a large being, and instantly she froze. She willed her fingers to stop and wrapped them around a small limb grabbing it with all her might. The woman closed her eyes and silently hoped her heart would beat slower so as not to be heard. Voices sounded faintly down below, and the panic she held seemed to be stuck in her throat. She wanted to scream, to run but she knew she could not. The crack of the dry foliage continued to resonate in the small area, before all went quiet once more. The woman opened her eyes, and the light glow of the moon caught a glint to them as she slowly stood back up. They were gone and she was safe, for now. She began her descent down, her limbs quickly taking her back to the solid earth. A soft sigh left the woman's lips before she covered her face up once more with a loose piece of dark cloth, and followed those who had been in pursuit of her. Sophia was once again, safe.
